- Explosive perforations expend their entire amount of energy in an instant blast, crushing the formation and forming a pointed shaped perforation in the rock.
- Sand jet allows for the continuing release of energy and forms a 1-2 inch diameter cone shaped hole expanding as it goes deeper into the formation. Removed material is washed out which creates better formation communication as demonstrated in lower formation break down pressures.
